HOW TO GET THERE: By plane from Paris the journey takes 2 hours.

WHEN TO GO? We advise you to go before or after the summer period to avoid the heat. We were lucky enough to have great weather in the middle of February!

After having taken you to taste the best tapas of the Madrid's markets markets and the best rooftops in the rooftopsit's time to discover the unusual spots scattered all over the city!

Atocha Station

The city's main train station is worth a visit even if you don't take the train! Walk through the door to discover a tropical forest in the middle of the hall. Many species of plants and animals live here in perfect harmony! We advise you to go to the upper walkways (next to the access to the tracks) to better realize its size!

Atocha Station: It is fully wheelchair accessible and the upper walkway is accessible with an elevator. There are also adapted toilets in the main hall.

The temple of Debod

You are not dreaming, it is indeed an Egyptian temple in the middle of Madrid! The remains of the 2,200 year old temple of Debod were given to Spain by Egypt in exchange for its contribution to the archaeological excavations in the Nile Valley. The place becomes magical at sunset!

Temple of Debod: Right next to the Plaza de España, you won't be able to miss it! Accessibility: The entrance to the park is on the same level as the this access. It's best to have a front wheel or some help to walk on the cobblestones around the temple. Find here all the information (in Spanish) about the accessibility of the temple according to your disability.

Matadero

Theformer slaughterhouse of Madrid was completely redesigned in 2006 to host an artistic and cultural center. Numerous exhibitions take place throughout the year in the magnificent red brick buildings. Several restaurants allow you to fully enjoy the place and its large spaces.

Matadero: Open all year round with free entry into the venue and some exhibitions are chargeable. Accessibility: It is fully wheelchair accessible and there are also adapted toilets.

Madrid Rio

From the Matadero, walk north along the banks of the Manzanares River through Madrid Rio Park. Just behind the royal palace, walk a few meters into the Casa de Campo park to enjoy the view of the lake. If you're lucky, you might see some rowers training.

Madrid Rio: The entire promenade is wheelchair accessible.

These unusual spots have managed to blend in with the more classic style of the city center. Among the museums, squares and gardens not to be missed, here are our two favorites.

Plaza Mayor

Right next to the Mercado San Miguel, the Plaza Mayor is one of the squares you should not miss! It is one of the city's landmarks since its construction at the end of the 16th century. It has been redesigned many times, but it was in 1854 that it took its final shape, with murals on the building now occupied by the Tourism Center.

Plaza Mayor: No less than 9 entrances allow access all day long. There are many stores to buy souvenirs or to eat under the arcades. Accessibility: It is accessible by wheelchair, but its floor is covered with cobblestones that can make it difficult to walk.

Retiro Garden

Real green lung of the city, this park is so big that there are several gardens inside: the garden of the perennials, a rose garden, gardens with French and Andalusian airs... On the main pond you will not miss the fountain dedicated to Alfonso XII! For the most athletic among you, you will not be disappointed by coming here to run!

Retiro Garden: It is open all day! Accessibility: It is fully accessible by wheelchair. Find here the map with all the PMR accesses.

This is where our stay in Madrid ends. We discovered a city very accessible in wheelchair that it is the historical buildings as the most recent. We never asked ourselves questions while going in a restaurant or in a bar and we cannot say to you how much it is resting! We will return there with pleasure!
